You can have our scarves cleaned at a trustworthy dry-cleaner's.
Washing by hand:
Use only cold water and a silk shampoo. Avoid alkali. Most detergents contain alkali, which, after prolonged use, attacks the silk. The re-greasing components of hair shampoo or detergents for woolens can reduce the sheen of the silk. Move the silk around in the water for no longer than 2 or 3 minutes. A dash of clear vinegar in the rinsing water is good for the fabric and the colour..
Drying:
Never wring silk out. For drying, crêpe satin should hung up wet whereas bourette-silk should be carefully laid out flat to dry. Both sorts of silk should be kept out of direct sunlight.
Ironing:
It is the best to iron silk when it is still slightly damp and only on the reverse side using, at the most, setting 2. Silk fibres, like our hair, are made up of proteins, which are damaged by too much heat.
Marks and stains:
Always avoid rubbing. Never try to remove a mark with water. Sprinkle some baking powder on a new grease or fat mark and let it work in for at least 20 minutes and then tap it off. If in doubt, it is better to take the scarf to a good dry-cleaner's rather than ending up with a permanent stain caused by attempts at removal that have gone wrong.
